*THIS IS A 2 WEEK ONLINE COURSE*

The framework for Multicultural Competency for this workshop comes from Dr. Patricia Arredondo's model.  Cultural competency is made up of 3 factors:  1) awareness, both of ourselves and others, 2) knowledge of self and others, and 3) skills, including how we think and feel as well as how we behave.

A brief review of assumptions, personal bias, and awareness of cultural diversity issues will be presented.  Focus of the workshop will be on knowledge of self and others (appreciating diversity of many different aspects of culture) and on developing skills for working with people from diverse cultures.  Specific skills will be presented and practiced.  Organizational cultural competency will also be addressed.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will review personal bias and assumptions about cultural competency.
  • Participants will develop knowledge about self and other cultures.
  • Participants will learn and practice skills to increase cultural competency.
  • Participants will consider their agencies’ cultural competency
