Virginia Health Catalyst - Program Director

Virginia Health Catalyst ( strives to ensure all Virginians have equitable access to comprehensive health care that includes oral health. Catalyst seeks an experienced Program Director to lead collaborative, health-saving initiatives focused on equity, policy change, public health, community and clinical care, and public awareness. This is a full-time, grant-funded position. Specific responsibilities and job requirements are listed below.

The program director leads an outstanding team charged with advancing public health in the Commonwealth, prioritizing mission-driven efforts that address social determinants of health and systemic racism. This person will drive initiatives that help our clinical partners better integrate and coordinate care to meet the needs of their communities.


  • Lead program design and strategy for all of Catalyst’s grant-funded initiatives
  • Manage existing, and cultivate new, collaborative partnerships to drive change that increases access to equitable, comprehensive health care that includes oral health; efforts include engaging partners in advocacy efforts and facilitating interprofessional learning collaboratives
  • Work with funders and state partners on collaborative project design and strategy
  • Develop tools and resources to support integrated care, health equity, and provider education, including white papers, toolkits, and trainings
  • Ensure all programmatic deliverables are met
  • Manage the programs team including facilitating department meetings, conducting annual reviews, and identifying professional development opportunities
  • Work with directly with the development team to create grant budgets and track/analyze program spending 
  • Manage Catalyst’s Clinical Advisory Board
  • Deliver succinct program reports and/or presentations to funders, Catalyst board members, the CEO, and state/national partners
  • Participate in grant-related meetings, partner meetings, and internal/external educational offerings
  • Help to grow Catalyst’s service opportunities to advance care integration, quality improvement, and health equity 

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • People-management experience
  • Experience with nonprofit management and/or managing grant-funded deliverables
  • Knowledge of quality improvement techniques
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly and make well-organized verbal presentations
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and prioritize competing demands in a fast-changing environment
  • Strong analytic and communication skills
  • Experience working with clinical providers in any setting
  • Ability to seek and engage new partners while maintaining existing relationships
  • Strong strategic thinking, organizational and leadership skills
  • A commitment to producing consistently high-quality, detailed work, even under deadline
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Flexibility, a sense of humor, and a desire to work in a collaborative, drama-free environment



  • At least ten years experience in public health or related field
  • Quality improvement expertise (preferred)
  • Successful experience managing a team or direct reports
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s welcome
  • Some overnight travel required

Salary Range:  $75,000 - $85,000 depending on level of experience
